Hot Spots

Hot spot test items allow students to click areas on an image to select one or more answers. Hot spot items allow a student to select a single answer or multiple answers (single selection or multiple selection). For single hot spot test items, students can only select one hot spot at a time. If they select another hot spot, the previous one will be deselected automatically. For multiple selection hot spots, if you set a maximum number of answers, students will be notified to remove another answer if they attempt to select more than the maximum number of answers.

You can assign negative points to incorrect answers for multiple selection questions; however, the lowest total score a student can receive for the whole item is zero points.

You can view the images and answers for a hot spot item on the Item Detail page. The test item can also be previewed to see how it appears in TestNav.

Technology-enhanced test items, such as drag and drop, are designed to be used with online tests; however, test booklets with technology-enhanced items can be downloaded from the Print and Test Detail pages to be printed for students who do not have access to a computer.
