Tools and Manipulatives

Tools and manipulatives, such as rulers and calculators, can be enabled for students to use tests. To enable a tool or manipulative on a test, the Enable Tools & Manipulatives test property must be set to Yes, and the specific tools and manipulatives used on the test must be selected (formula sheets are an exception; they will always appear when attached to a test itemA test question, such as True/False, Matching, Open Response, and so on. Test items can be created in Assessment Admin or imported through the QTI import process.). Tools and manipulatives can also be defined on individual test items and will be used when the Use Item Settings option is selected for a test.

For online tests, a toolbar with buttons for each tool will appear if tools and manipulatives are enabled for the test. Students can drag a tool to a new location and rotate certain tools. On printed tests, students will use their own tools. Test item creators are responsible to make sure that images are scaled correctly on printed tests.

When manipulatives are used on a test, images displayed in TestNav and printed test booklets will not be scaled by the system, and will display at the resolution at which they were inserted into the test. This ensures that measurements taken with manipulatives are accurate.
