Edit a Test
Test creators can edit tests that are in the Private or Public Draft stage (this ensures that data collection reporting remains accurate). After a test is in the Finalized stage or later, you can Modify the test (a more limited form of editing).
When creating or editing items on a test:
- If you create or duplicate an item on a test, the item will not be saved to an item bank by default but can be added to a bank after the test is published.
- When editing an item on a test, changes will be made only on the test you are editing, and will not update the item in the item bank.
- After a test is scheduled or completed, you can add an item to a bank from the Test Detail page.
To edit a test:
- Go to Assessments > Find for tests, and search for a test in the Private Draft or Public Draft state.
- Click the test name to go to the Test Detail page.
- Click the Edit Items button to open the Edit Test page. Adding an item will also open the Edit Test Page.
For each test item, you will see any unresolved alerts or warnings under the Actions button. Some alerts must be resolved before a test can be scheduled. See Edit Items for more information.
- Edit the test items as needed. Go to other items by clicking the question number on the left side of the page.
- To edit standards selections, do one of the following:
- At the top of the page, click Standards Template to select the standards template for the entire test. These standards can then be easily applied to a test item. Note that removing a standard will not remove that standard from items it is already associated with. A plus sign or a minus sign appears next to parent standards. Click on a plus sign to select a parent standard and all its children. Click on a minus sign to deselect a parent standard and all its children.
- If the test has a standards template, click Standards from in the Standards Alignment area for an item to quickly select standards already associated with the test. Or click All Standards to select from the full list of standards.
- If the test does not have a defined standards template, click Select Standards for an item to select from the full list of standards.
- To change the primary standard for an item, select an existing standard in the list under Standard Alignment. The selected standard will be labeled "Primary."
- To reorder test items, drag and drop them in the left panel. If custom question labels are used (for example, A, B, C), you will be asked whether you want to keep the custom labels or overwrite them with numbered question labels (1, 2, 3).
- Click Replace at the top of the page to replace an existing test item with an item from your item banks. The search filters will default to the subject, grade level, and standards defined for the item being replaced. Depending on the type of test and your permissions, there may be limitations on replacing items on a test.
- Click Duplicate at the top of the page to create a copy of the currently selected item or activity in a task. The copied item will appear as the last item on the test. If the item has a passage, the copied item will link to the original passage. Tasks will include copies of all activities in the original item. Items created outside of Schoolnet cannot be duplicated.
- Click Add Item to create a new item or search for an existing item from an item bank. When adding an item from a bank, use the search filters to find an item, and then click the Add to Test button. The search filters will default to the subject, grade level, and standards template defined for the test. In the search results, click Select Banks to search for an item from a specific bank or banks.
- Click Save, and then Return to Test Details.
When assessments have been integrated with PowerTeacher Gradebook, changes made by district test creators to the Description and Possible Points are synchronous with the Gradebook. A status message also displays with the date/time that updates were last sent to the Gradebook. If any errors occur in synchronizing changes to this data, a detailed error message will appear.
