Attach a Rubric

You can add a rubric to open response items to evaluate and measure student performance for a specific quality, trait or skill. Use the item bank search to find existing rubrics. See Rubrics for more information.

Adding a rubric to a test item overwrite the subject, grade levels, and standards alignment of the item.

To attach a rubric to an open response item:

1. Create or edit an existing open response item. (Go to Assessments > Create, and then select open response.)
2. Click Select Rubric.
3. Expand Filters at the top left, enter the search criteria, and then click the search icon. You can filter by:
   • Item Banks: Select a specific bank or banks to search.
   • Text or Keyword: Enter text to search on. The search engine looks at the question prompt, answer choice text, and keywords.
   • Subject: Select a subject.
   • Grade Level: Select a grade.
   • Select Standards: Click to select standards to find passages aligned to those standards.
4. Locate the rubric you want, and click Attach to associate it to the open response item.

For items in tests that are in the Draft or Ready to Schedule state, you change or remove the rubric from the item. For Scheduled, In Progress, and Completed tests, you can modify rubric associations from Test Details.
