1. Do one of the following:
   • Go to Assessments > Item Banks. Locate the item bank you want to search, and then click what you want to search for: Items, Passages, or Rubrics.

     Click All Banks at the top of the Item Banks page to search all banks you have access to. This includes banks for which the "Search this bank when building tests" checkbox is not selected. The actions you can take when searching all banks will be more limited than when searching a specific bank.

   • Go to Assessments > Find, and then select Items or Passages and Linked Items. Only the banks that you have selected to include in searches on the Item Banks page will be included in the search by default, though you can use the bank filter to search any bank you have access to.
2. Expand Filters at the top left, enter the search criteria, and then click the search icon (Apply Filter). You can filter by:
   • Text or Keyword: Enter the text to search on, and whether to include All Words or Any Words in the search. For items, the search engine looks at the item name, question and passage content, answer choices, and keywords. For passages, the search engine looks at title and content. For rubrics, the search engine looks at only the rubric name. Word order and quotation marks are not considered.
   • Item Banks: If you are searching All Banks, you can use this filter to drill down to a specific bank or banks. This filter will not appear if you opened the search from a specific bank.
   • Subject: Select a subject or subjects to search on.
   • Grade Level: Select a grade or grades to search on.
   • Standards: Select standards to search on. See Select Standards. After selecting standards, you can click a single standard in the filters panel to focus the search on that standard. Click the standard again to remove the focus.
   • Custom categories: Up to three custom filters defined in your system may appear in the search panel. Custom categories appear only for item searches, not for passages or rubrics.
   • Other filters (items only): Publisher, Webb's DOK, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Question Language. For rubrics, the Publisher field is available. These filters are also available in the All Filters search.
   • All Filters (items and passages only): Click to perform an advanced search for items and passages. A new search page with all available filters will open.
3. Items only: Select the Find and group items by passage checkbox to view items grouped by the passage they use. Deselecting the checkbox will remove all applied passage filters, including any you have applied manually from All Filters.
   • Passages are listed in order of standards coverage, taking into account the number of standards alignments and linked items that match the filter criteria.
   • Linked items and tasks are listed below each passage. Only the View Passage Details action is available for the passage, but all item actions are available.
   • After selecting the option to group items by passage, the option to Only show items with multiple linked passages will appear.
   • By default, passages are shown with their linked items expanded. Click Hide Linked Items at the top to collapse the item lists and see only passages. For each passage, click the down arrow next to the number of matching items to expand the item list for just that passage.
4. In the actions menu for a particular item, select the appropriate option. The actions you can take depend on your rights to the item bank.
   • Preview as Student (items only): Preview with or without Text to Speech to interact with the item as a student will on a test.
   • View Item/Passage/Rubric Details: Click to go to the details page. Some actions can be performed only from the details page.
   • Edit: Edit the item, passage, or rubric.
   • Export (items only): Export the item for transfer to another system using the QTI 2.1 specification. You can also bulk export items per the following step. See Export Items for more information.
   • Delete (items only): Delete the item. Note that you can only delete a passage or rubric from the Details page so that you can see linked items.
5. For multiple selected items, select the checkboxes for the items, and then click the Item Actions button. Select the appropriate action:
   • Add to Test: Add the selected items or passages to a new or existing test (you will need to search for an existing test, or click Create new test with these items). You can select up to 250 items to add to a test. For passages, items linked to the selected passage will be added to the test. Linked items in banks you do not have access to will not be added to the test. If no items are linked to the passage, no items will be added to the test.
   • Move to Bank : Move an item, passage, or rubric to a different bank (or a create a new bank). You must have edit rights, and you perform this action when searching All Banks. A notification will appear when the move is complete. When moving items, you will be asked if you want to also move any linked passages that exist in the same bank. If the linked passages exist in a different bank, they will remain in their current bank. When moving passages, any linked items will remain in their existing bank. The passage will continue to remain visible to any user with access to a linked item, regardless of the passage's bank.
   • Export (selected items): Export the selected test items for transfer to another system via QTI. See Export Items.
   • Delete: Delete the selected items from the bank. Only items with an open license can be deleted. Items with a restricted license will not be deleted.
   • Edit Item Properties (items only): Edit the item properties of the selected items. Select and edit the fields you want to modify, and then click Save. There is no limit on the number of items you can modify. When updating more than 500 items, do so during non-school hours to avoid affecting performance. A notification will appear after the items have been updated. See Edit an Item > Additional Properties table for a description of the item properties.
     
6. For all items or passages: Click Select All [x] Items/Passages to select all items or passages to move them to another bank or export them. This button is available only when you have not selected the checkbox for any items or passages. The Select All button is not available when searching All Banks.
   • Move to Bank: Moves up to 500 items or passages to move them to another bank. Repeat the process to move additional items. You must have edit rights to the originating bank.
   • Export (items only): All test items in the bank that are eligible for QTI export will be exported (there is no maximum number). Items not eligible for export will be ignored. A message will appear noting how many items will be exported, and how many items are ineligible. You must have edit rights to the originating bank and rights to export items. See Export Items.
   • Delete: Delete all items in the bank. Only items with an open license can be deleted. Items with a restricted license will not be deleted.
   • Edit Item Properties (items only): Edit the item properties of all items in the current bank search results. Select and edit the fields you want to modify, and then click Save. A notification will appear after the items have been updated. There is no limit on the number of items you can modify. When updating more than 500 items, do so during non-school hours to avoid affecting performance. See Edit an Item > Additional Properties table for a description of the item properties.
     
7. Click Close to exit the search results.

The actions you can take depend on your rights to the item bank.

• Access Item Details, Passage Details, or Rubric Details
• Edit an item, passage, or rubric
• Bulk update item properties
• Delete an item (passages and rubrics can be deleted from their Details page)
• Bulk delete items
• Preview an item
• View properties, such as Language and Cognitive Demand

• Add items to a test (from both item and passage search results)
