Hot Text

Hot Text is a technology-enhanced test item type that requires students to select one or more words, phrases, or sentences as a response from a passage of text.

Notes:

• Hot Text items cannot be created or edited in Schoolnet. They can only be imported from third parties via the QTI import process by system operators.
• Hot Text items are supported only in the TestNav online testing platform.
• Hot Text items can be previewed from Test Detail, Item Detail, or item search results. When Hot Text items are included in tasks, you can click the item to view a read-only "edit" page.
• Hot Text items can be added to new or existing tests by searching for an item and adding it to a test (see the steps below). Express tests may automatically add these items if they are used in your system.
• Although Hot Text items cannot be edited in Schoolnet, they otherwise function like any other item type: they can be scored, printed on student test booklets, previewed, viewed on reports, exported, and so on.
• Embedded HTML content is supported.
• Images and equations are supported.
• Your system may not support or may not contain Hot Text items depending on how it is configured.

To find a Hot Text item type

1. Go to Assessments > Item Banks and click Items for the appropriate bank.
2. Expand Filters at the top left, and then click the Advanced Search at the bottom.
3. Under Item Properties, click the Item Type dropdown, select Hot Text, and then click OK.
4. Enter any other search criteria, and then click the Search Items button at the bottom of the page.
5. From the Item Search Results page, you can view items or add items to a test (click Add Items to Test).

You can also add a Hot Text item to a test during test creation.
