Test Co-Authoring
You can use the co-authoring feature to collaborate with others when creating tests. You can select co-authors from any in the system with access to Assessments, even if they normally do not have permission to create or edit tests. Co-authors can be restricted to View Only access or be given permission to edit the test.
Use co-authoring folders to share tests with groups of co-authors who collaborate on tests. For more information on co-authored folders, see Co-Authored Folder Detail.
Teachers who do not have permission to use Assess can still create co-authored tests. The Share with Others option will be hidden if the teacher does not have permission to create and edit tests at the institution, but the co-authoring sharing options will be available.
To create a co-authored test
- Go to Assessments > Test Co-Authoring.
- Optional: Click the folder you want to work with, or, if you have the permissions to do so, click Create New > Folder to create a new folder to work with.
- From a folder, click Create New Test . Outside of a folder, click Create New > Test.
- Enter the test information and test settings. See Create Manual Test for information on test settings.
- If creating a test outside a co-authoring folder: In the Co-Authoring Settings area, select the co-authors or co-authoring folder.
- Click Generate Test.
- Add or edit the test items as needed. The test will be locked to other co-authors while you are editing it.

- Click Finish Editing to save your changes and allow other co-authors to edit it.
- Click Move to Test Central to make the test available on Test Central. This button is available only when editing the test and will not appear if the test contains unresolved errors.
Note: If co-authors from multiple schools work on a test, they should copy the test before it is shared to test Test Central to ensure that their school has the test. When a test is copied, it will be shared to Test Central for the user's institution and be available for editing or scheduling. The co-authored version of the test will be immediately unlocked for other co-authors. If a co-authored test being edited is left inactive for 10 minutes, the test will also be unlocked.
